A Fresh New Voice in Gospel

Get ready for an exciting new sound shaking up the gospel music scene, straight from the heart of Whiteville, North Carolina! Introducing Charlie Manning, a dynamic new voice bursting with passion for worship, an incredible story to share, and a sound that's already captivating believers!

I was thrilled that Charlie could find time in his busy schedule for an interview with me, as I greatly admire his work and contributions. Given his many commitments, I was excited when he agreed to our conversation. The chance to gain insights from his experiences was motivating. Connecting with someone of his caliber was significant for me, and I was determined to make the most of it!

Tonya L White - Tell us a little about your background. How did your faith journey begin?

Charlie Manning - My parents raised me, but I was always with my grandparents growing up, so church is all I know. My grandparents taught me what faith is all about. Church was central to my upbringing, shaping my earliest memories. My grandparents taught me the essence of faith, instilling love, compassion, and resilience.

Through Bible teachings, they illustrated how faith guides us through challenges and inspires personal growth. For us, the church was a community, a place of worship, celebration, and support. These lessons from my grandparents and the church have deeply impacted my character, shaping my values and guiding my life's decisions.

TLW - Why gospel music? Is this the genre you always wanted to pursue?

CM - I wanted to do R & B but at a young age, my grandparents taught me that you can't serve two masters so I went back to what I was taught.

TLW - Who are some gospel artists that influenced your sound?

CM - Zacardi Cortez is my favorite artist due to his unique style and powerful vocals, which resonate deeply with me. His music, rich with themes of faith, resilience, and hope, is significant in my life. Each track is an emotional journey, uplifting and relatable, distinguishing him in contemporary gospel music.

Kim Burrell is also becoming a favorite. Her extraordinary talent and distinctive voice bring a fresh perspective to the genre, blending traditional gospel with contemporary elements. Her soulful delivery and heartfelt lyrics captivate audiences, connecting on a personal level.

Both artists profoundly impact the gospel music scene with their unique flair, inspiring and uplifting listeners. Their music is essential to my daily life, and I look forward to exploring more of their work and witnessing their growth.

TLW - Do your songs come more from personal experience, scripture, or divine inspiration?

CM - My music comes mostly from scripture and personal life experience.

TLW - What has the process of recording a new song?

CM - The process has been overwhelming. I've done a lot of features for other artists. It feels good to step out and record my own music. It's a blessing. I still remain humble and enjoy the ride.

TLW - Your new debut single is titled "I Am Determined". What message do you hope listeners get from this song?

CM - I hope that they can make the decision to do the right thing and walk before God.

TLW - Have you faced any challenges?

CM - You know the devil can try to speak to your mind. My biggest challenge is trying not to self-sabotage. This is fueled by doubts and fears, manifests as procrastination, negative self-talk, or avoiding growth opportunities. To overcome it, I focus on my strengths, use positive affirmations, and seek support from others.

TLW - Where do you see your ministry and music going in the next few years?

CM - I pray it reaches the masses. I would love to do missions overseas.

TLW - Are there any dream collaborations you hope to do someday?

CM - Absolutely! I would love to collaborate with Zacardi Cortex and The Walls Group. I love their music. Their music resonates deeply with me, and I have always admired their unique styles and vocal performances.

Charlie Manning is just getting started. With more music on the way, we will be seeing and hearing a lot more from him in the future.

Final word from Charlie Manning: "My prayer is that every note I sing leads someone closer to Jesus. That's what it's all about."
